Markyd: How do you merge two clones, example is i made the forward saucer to my desired shape and then cloned and cut away unwanted parts and rotated it to fit. I tried selecting both vertices to collapse but it won't work, neither does the connect button.

sounds like you have duplicate faces mate, max wont weld anything with a complete opposing face, it needs vert to vert unjustifued  grin

-- lamen speak --

delete some faces around the verts you are trying to weld, then weld em, and rebuild the faces later mate

One thing that differs from the model and the actual drawings is the placement of the nacelles. The drawing actually has the nacelles closer together.

The above pics are just showing the work started on the saucer re design. Don't mind the nacelles jest yet, after the saucer if finished i'll be playing with the hull then the nacelles.

Hey guys, i'm in need of some help. Another project of mine is updating hobbs Griffin class in max. Thats done with no errors but i'm having trouble with stage 2, textures. Now before you start getting mad and posting links to the tutorials I've been thought all of them. Most of the ones deal with the Arika pre made model and textures. I'm doing this from scratch and the vid from markyd has helped me most of the way. But when i export in to .OBJ and open it in Nifscope i can't load any textures. I even went to render setting and loaded my max sceans folder and export maps. WHat am i missing?

export as a 3DS instead then open in nifskope. the textures and UV's will be preserved. You may have to reassign the textures in nifskope.

Alternatively use the 3d max nif export plugine from nif tools. Most versions are covered and it cuts out the need for nifskope as the nifs will mork in game straight from max.

It's your forward phaser canon for the Dragon. I was saving it for a surprise but i'm having lots of trouble texturing this. Like i said before, this is my first time doing something from start to finish. Normally i jest i do a re texture job on existing models.

wow cool!

thank you my friend... and its a great surprise smile

if i may make sure the cannon is part of the front segment and not the centre of the saucer... unless we are doing away with the saucer segments and going for class variants instead (meaning ships built the same but different)

Finally, after 3 weeks I've jest finished 4 models. Griffin class and Dragon class escort. I've jest turned all models over to my friend hobbs and we'll see what he thinks. It was a lot of hard work and i learned a lot along the way as this is my first models. Half way through i realized i made a mistake and had to start all over from the base model. Now with the expert help of my fellow modders my task is done and i'm off to my next project. Let me know what you think.

AWESOME
they are great my friend and love the new textures!
sorry not got back to you but been having probs with connection.

the models:

the ships look great, i love the new shape to the saucer section (below the fake bridge).

as for the DRAGON varient... oh my god! it looked good in the pics, but when i saw it in game! you even did the other two cannons! she is great... the proper combat ship.

Textures:

the textures are fantastic... better than i could do. your skills are amazing. i only have a few issues but they are just my preferences. The texture on the top near the fake bridge and the warp core release hatch in the secondary hull not a fan i'm sorry to say.

please dont take any of that as critasism, you ahve given me the greatest ships i could have asked for... if i may when at some point in the future i release the ships i would ask if you are happy for me to credit you and my friends at Ship Builders Project 2007 for the models.

simply put those models are great.

thank you smile

i am working on the hps and textures and am also attempting to get the cannons on the dragon working.
